Increasingly polluted water with heavy metals and chemicals, hay and grains heavily sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are dominating our environment and affecting our horses. We no longer have the strong healthy stock of horses originally populating this earth, but a gene pool of weakened constitutions and individually so toxic that we are seeing colic, liver and kidney failure, azoturia (muscle-tie up), and chronic lameness in epidemic proportions.
In the past two months we have had dozens of phone calls from people asking if we have a product to help prevent or stop a horse from colicing. As some of you know we have successfully helped horses in those situations by dosing them with GastroPLUS every 20 to 30 minutes which helps the horse and gives it relief until the vet gets there. In most cases the horse is completely over the episode.
We decided to look into this problem and have come up with a formula that is specific to the needs of the horse during this very stressful and dangerous time. The new formula called Colic Rescue is a variation of GastroPLUS with some added ingredients. It will calm a horse emotionally and relax it physically; thus lessening the possibility of the gut twisting.
We packaged this formula in an eight ounce jar (8 doses, or 4 double doses, $39) and in a 1lb jar (16 single doses, 8 double doses, $75). This product would only be used as a temporary aid until a Vet can get to the horse. So, there is no need for a 2lb. container (unless you care for a lot of horses). The product has a 2 year shelf life so you can store and know that you at least have a way to help the horse stay comfortable while you wait for the Vet.
With Colic Rescue on hand you won’t feel helpless, the horse will be comfortable and hopefully, by the time the vet gets there the crisis will be over.

Fortunately, colic due to intussusception (telescoping in of the small intestine,) or torsion (twisting of the intestine) which require surgical intervention, are infrequent. Most colic’s are simple spastic, impacted, or constipation with inflation of the bowel with gases.
Signs of Colic
Once you see these symptoms you won’t have much time so you will need to have this product on hand. Dosing instructions....Give double dose at first signs of colic symptoms and follow with another dose 20 - 40 minutes later. Dose every 30 minutes after that until all signs/symptoms subside.

· lying down more than usual
· getting up and lying down repeatedly
· standing stretched out
· standing frequently as if to urinate
· turning the head towards the flank
· repeatedly curling the upper lip
· pawing the ground
· kicking at the abdomen
· rolling

“Sunday night, my mare is throwing herself on the ground, pawing, trying to roll, rearing over backwards. No banamine on hand to be found (had some in trailer but it disappeared), I remembered hearing that GP had worked on another horse for colic, and had given it for a mild gas colic before. Vet was at least an hour out, so I gave her a double dose of GP. She was still trying to throw herself to the ground, but not rearing and pawing so hard. 30 minutes or so later, another double dose, no more pawing or rearing, just lots of belly looking and wanting to lay down. Vet calls and will be yet another hour. Gave a third double dose of GP.
By the time the vet arrived, he thought I was crazy to think my mare was colicing. She was calm, quiet, relaxed, heartbeat was slow, respiration rate fine, and she was trying to eat grass. But, vet knows I am not one to call because I like to pay him to come visit, so he decided to do a rectal exam. Yep, sure enough he can feel an impacted cecum. He suggests rushing her for surgery, but since I couldn't come up with the walk-in fee in cash that night, we opted to oil her, give her some banamine and see how she progressed.
She made it through the night, passed a gazillion oats, and we never looked back. I called the vet to tell him she was passing oat filled feces and doing great, and he had been expecting me to call to ask for her to be put down. LOL He still won't say much about the GP except to say that "that stuff probably saved her". Me, I say probably my butt, it saved her."
